One Pic Wednesday – Enormous Apartment in the Heart of Copenhagen

The chosen image of this week has to be this one, from a 350 square meter apartment in the heart of Copenhagen. That is freakishly big. In fact, it's so big they had space to build their own gym hall in the apartment! What I love most, besides the impressive spaciousness, is their use of big plants in the interior, and the fact that they aren't afraid to mix high and low, with vintage design classics standing next to pieces from high street brands like Hay and Ilva. Also, this art wall is a mix of children's drawings, family photos and pieces given to them from artist friends, all hung in a random way, making it very personal and relaxed.

Viktigt – Ingegerd Råman’s collection for Ikea

For non-Swedes, Ingegerd Råman may be an unknown name, but here she is known as the grand dame of glass and ceramic design. Now in her 70's, still working and producing designs as strong as ever, always in her own essentialist style. The campaign photos are shot in Råman's design studio.

Created in collaboration with Ikea and Vietnamese craftsmen, this discreet collection ranges from handmade glassware to furniture woven from natural fibres. With love of craftsmanship and simplicity at the heart of it all, VIKTIGT pieces do their job in silence.

This is the first time I am planning on lining up outside the big store in time for a release. These are exactly the kind of pieces I am looking to have in my own home. Classic, rather anonymous, extremely functional items made from natural materials.

The QVEST Hotel in Cologne

When I found the QVEST Hotel, I almost regretted not going to Cologne for the recent design fair, just so I could have stayed in this amazing space. The hotel links history and modernity by combining neo-Gothic architecture with a curated collection of furniture, contemporary art, and photography. Thanks to the owner of QVEST magazine, Michael Kaune, whose love of modern design manifests itself not just in the pages of this niche art, design, and culture publication but also in his contemporary photography gallery, the hotel is a mid-century and Bauhaus lover’s dream.

With a large part of the hotel furnished with Kaune’s personal collection of furniture and photographs, the spaces form a veritable design museum. Savvy guests can even take home a “souvenir” from an exclusive shop selling the hotel’s carefully curated furniture and design objects. Qvest even offers a small library of art, design, and fashion literature in every room, in lieu of television sets.

A New Player on Stockholm’s Real Estate Market

Browsing through this week's real estate ads I fell over this beautifully styled Stockholm apartment with dark walls and rustic wood floors and furnishings, for sale by a new company called 1st Street just launched by a former Fantastic Frank broker. The styling and photography is great, it looks very promising and I'm looking forward to seeing more from them in the future, but I really wish they would tone down their sales pitch a few notches. The descriptions are totally over the top, featuring all the clichés and more… It gave me a good laugh, but I really don't think that was their purpose?

Concrete Minimalist Cabin in the Swiss Alps

The perfect spot for a relaxing start to the new year, a minimalist concrete cabin in the Swiss alps, where the simple lines and raw materials gives the space an almost monastic feeling. Untreated wood, sheepskins  and fabrics are used to soften the impression. The cabin is only 40 sqm, so a concrete bench was added along the length of one wall to solve the issue of seating without taking up too much space.

String News S/S 2016

Swedish brand String are continuing their successful collaboration with stylist Lotta Agaton, CD Magnus Ingerstedt and photographer Marcus Lawett, and just released new images for Spring 2016. The goal of the campaign is to show the many possibilities of the shelving system and how it can work in every room of the house. As you can see, it looks great in both kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms as well as bathrooms, and can be used to store much more than just books.

Anna Pirkola for Asun

One feature that really stood out to me in the Asun magazine that I blogged about yesterday, were these images styled by Anna Pirkola and photographed by Katri Kapanen. The peach and white colour scheme is very Spring 2016, and the poetic atmosphere of the images is beautiful.
