One Pic Wednesday – Enormous Apartment in the Heart of Copenhagen

enormous copenhagen apartment with high ceilings

enormous copenhagen apartment with high ceilings

The chosen image of this week has to be this one, from a 350 square meter apartment in the heart of Copenhagen. That is freakishly big. In fact, it's so big they had space to build their own gym hall in the apartment! What I love most, besides the impressive spaciousness, is their use of big plants in the interior, and the fact that they aren't afraid to mix high and low, with vintage design classics standing next to pieces from high street brands like Hay and Ilva. Also, this art wall is a mix of children's drawings, family photos and pieces given to them from artist friends, all hung in a random way, making it very personal and relaxed.

Nicola Odemann

Nicola Odemann

i have posted about Nicola Odemann before, but somehow the images in the post have disappeared. mmm, i suppose if you have had a blog going for 7 off years there will be some digital casualties along the way (i imagine the internet to eat files like the dreaded sarlacc, to be honest). well anyway, that [...]

Viktigt – Ingegerd Råman’s collection for Ikea

Ingegerd Råman Viktigt collection for Ikea

Ingegerd Råman Viktigt collection for Ikea

For non-Swedes, Ingegerd Råman may be an unknown name, but here she is known as the grand dame of glass and ceramic design. Now in her 70's, still working and producing designs as strong as ever, always in her own essentialist style. The campaign photos are shot in Råman's design studio.

Created in collaboration with Ikea and Vietnamese craftsmen, this discreet collection ranges from handmade glassware to furniture woven from natural fibres. With love of craftsmanship and simplicity at the heart of it all, VIKTIGT pieces do their job in silence.

IKEA VIKTIGT collection by Ingegerd Råman, Studio

This is the first time I am planning on lining up outside the big store in time for a release. These are exactly the kind of pieces I am looking to have in my own home. Classic, rather anonymous, extremely functional items made from natural materials.

“It’s a project between the craftsmen and the designer. It has lots of energy. And looking at the objects now – the things we did – for me, it represents love.”

The QVEST Hotel in Cologne

Qvest Hotel Suite

Qvest Hotel Lobby

When I found the QVEST Hotel, I almost regretted not going to Cologne for the recent design fair, just so I could have stayed in this amazing space. The hotel links history and modernity by combining neo-Gothic architecture with a curated collection of furniture, contemporary art, and photography. Thanks to the owner of QVEST magazine, Michael Kaune, whose love of modern design manifests itself not just in the pages of this niche art, design, and culture publication but also in his contemporary photography gallery, the hotel is a mid-century and Bauhaus lover’s dream.

Qvest Hotel Conference Table

Qvest Hotel Stairs

With a large part of the hotel furnished with Kaune’s personal collection of furniture and photographs, the spaces form a veritable design museum. Savvy guests can even take home a “souvenir” from an exclusive shop selling the hotel’s carefully curated furniture and design objects. Qvest even offers a small library of art, design, and fashion literature in every room, in lieu of television sets.

A New Player on Stockholm’s Real Estate Market

gray walls rustic table dining room

Browsing through this week's real estate ads I fell over this beautifully styled Stockholm apartment with dark walls and rustic wood floors and furnishings, for sale by a new company called 1st Street just launched by a former Fantastic Frank broker. The styling and photography is great, it looks very promising and I'm looking forward to seeing more from them in the future, but I really wish they would tone down their sales pitch a few notches. The descriptions are totally over the top, featuring all the clichés and more… It gave me a good laugh, but I really don't think that was their purpose?

Naomi Harris: EUSA

Naomi Harris is a Canadian photographer who, since 2008, has travelled across Europe and the United States visiting themed-towns, amusement parks, and festivals. in her project EUSA she photographs the ways in which popularly received ideas about one culture get expressed in the other – Swedes dressed as fur trappers, Czechs dressed as Mariachis, Americans [...]

Elise Ansel

Elise Ansel

Déjeuner II, (after Manet), 2015. Elise Ansel is an artist from NYC whose work is derived from historical Old Master paintings, using a painterly notation and shorthand to translate them into her own contemporary pictorial language. you know that quote from Clueless (of all places)? "She's a full on Monet – from far away, it's OK, but up close, [...]

Concrete Minimalist Cabin in the Swiss Alps

Minimalist Concrete Alp Cabin

Concrete Minimalist Alp Cabin

The perfect spot for a relaxing start to the new year, a minimalist concrete cabin in the Swiss alps, where the simple lines and raw materials gives the space an almost monastic feeling. Untreated wood, sheepskins  and fabrics are used to soften the impression. The cabin is only 40 sqm, so a concrete bench was added along the length of one wall to solve the issue of seating without taking up too much space.

Tasha Tudor

Tasha Tudor

this post began when i came across images of Tasha Tudor, a children's book illustrator whose nostalgic throwback lifestyle (she lived in a replica of a late 18th-century New England farmhouse) included spinning flax into linen to make her own clothes, milking goats and sleeping in a featherbed "with her nose pointing north". according to her New York Times obituary she "frequently [...]

Jim Jams

Jim Jams

i decided to title this post Jim Jams because that's what i call pyjamas. no, i'm not five. but it's easier than trying to decide if i should go with the British spelling of pyjamas or the wholly more sensible American spelling of pajamas. PJs, jim jams, pyjamas, pajamas, sleepwear – whatever you call it, do you [...]

Swedish brand String are continuing their successful collaboration with stylist Lotta Agaton, CD Magnus Ingerstedt and photographer Marcus Lawett, and just released new images for Spring 2016. The goal of the campaign is to show the many possibilities of the shelving system and how it can work in every room of the house. As you can see, it looks great in both kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms as well as bathrooms, and can be used to store much more than just books.

you may remember Plante from when i first posted about the brand in 2014. sisters Leah & Rebecca Plante have just launched their Spring 2016 collection – i love that classic green skirt, there's almost nothing more beautiful to me than the combination of a blouse tucked into a long skirt. Anna Pirkola for Asun

Asun_annapirkola_ikea_artek

Asun_annapirkola_ikea_artek

One feature that really stood out to me in the Asun magazine that I blogged about yesterday, were these images styled by Anna Pirkola and photographed by Katri Kapanen. The peach and white colour scheme is very Spring 2016, and the poetic atmosphere of the images is beautiful.

If you like this, check out Anna's blog Dadaa, which I'm sure you will love.
